Biography
Meredith Oakes is a playwright and translator, and one of the Royal Court Theatre's new generation of leading playwrights.
Her published plays include The Neighbour (1993), The Editing Process (1994), Faith (1997) and Holy Mothers (1999). Adaptations include new versions of Jacob Lenz's The New Menoza, August Strindberg's Miss Julie and Odon von Horvath's Italian Night. She has also written for television, and her credits include the police drama, Prime Suspect, which stars Helen Mirren.
Most recently, Meredith Oakes has written the libretto for Thomas Ades' opera The Tempest, which opened at the Royal Opera House in October 2003.
