Add to researchAn Evening of Poetry with Bejan Matur

Our Ed Cottrell blogs on Bejan Matur's reading in Norwich

As part of the Arc Poets tour, Bejan Matur was reading alongside the Brazilian poet Antônio Moura in an exciting evening of international poetry in the Norwich Cathedral Hostry.

Reading their own poems in their home language, both poets were accompanied by translators giving the audience a dual-language rendition.

After the readings Bejan’s discussion focussed on translation and touched on finding echoes of one language in another – both in the images and in the sounds of the language. Antonio is the first living Brazilian poet to have been translated into English, which also brought a unique insight into the discussion.

Bejan Matur has recently started her six week residency in Norwich as part of a residency which has already welcomed Sema Kaygusuz to Norwich, and will host the UK writer Benjamin Wood in Istanbul in 2013.

The event was organised by the BCLT, the UEA, Arc, and Writers Centre Norwich - who are partnered with the British Council in supporting Bejan Matur’s current UK visit as part of our 'writers in residence' programme.
