Related project: Hay FestivalsIn its second year Hay Kerala is set to build on the strong sucess of 2010. Held at the stunning location of Kanakakunnu Palace in Kerala's capital city, Thiruvananthapuram, the festival explores big questions and new ideas for both Indian and international audiences.
British writers Germaine Greer, Jon Gower, Tiffany Murray and Simon Armitage will all engage in talks and readings of their work. The festival will stream some of the live events via the British Council in India to give people not in Kerala the chance to participate.
Hay Kerala also sees an exciting new phase of the British Council’s India Wales Writers Chain project. Following successful summer workshops in Wales this year, Welsh poets Siân Melangell Dafydd, Robert Minhinnick, Twm Morys and Eurig Salisbury have travelled to Kerala to collaborate with four Indian poets: the Malayali literary legend K. Satchidanandan, renowned contemporary Hindi poet Anamika, Mumbai-based Bengali poet Sampurna Chattarji and Malayali poet and translator, Anitha Thampi. Writers Chain is organised by Wales Literature Exchange with the British Council.
The international series of the Hay-on-Wye literary festival brings debates to a world-wide arena. You can read more about our global partnership with Hay on our Projects page.
